Broader Epstein-Barr virus-specific T-cell receptor repertoire in patients with multiple sclerosis

In this study, the authors report that multiple sclerosis (MS) is not only preceded by Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infection but also associated with a broader EBV-specific T-cell receptor (TCR) repertoire, even after genetic and early environmental factors are ruled out. They confirmed the presence of the broader EBV-specific TCRβ repertoire in MS patients by sequencing the TCRβ chain of genomic DNA in an independent validation cohort by using the immunoPETE immunosequencing method in collaboration with Roche.
