EBV (Epstein-Barr Virus) DNAemia monitoring protocols are driven by patient risk factors and results allow for clinical adjustments in immunosuppression, potentially lowering the risk of PTLD. While plasma is more specific for prediction of disease, whole blood is an acceptable sample type in instances of maximizing sensitivity for early detection.
