Evaluation of a New Donor Screening Test for the Detection of Antibodies to Treponema pallidum
Assays for detection of antibodies to Treponema pallidum (TP)-specific antigens are in common use for screening blood donations for syphilis. These assays are available on high-throughput automated instruments. This study comparatively evaluated the sensitivity and specificity of the Elecsys Syphilis assay against other commercially available assays.

Specificity of Electrochemiluminescent Immunoassays for Donor Screening
Serologic testing required for donations of blood and components in the US includes HBsAg antigen, antibodies to HIV, HCV, HBc, HTLV I/II, and syphilis, as well as one-time testing for antibodies to Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas). Some blood banks also selectively screen donations for total (IgG and IgM) antibodies to Cytomegalovirus. The Cobas Pro serology solution is a new automated immunoassay solution available for performing all required and selective serological tests for donor screening in the US. This study evaluated the specificity of the Elecsys assays on the Cobas Pro serology solution compared to current test methods used for donor screening in the US.
